Inspector Jack Horner of the Talland Police Department, hm? Wolf handed the card back to Jack.
Jack would be fine, thank you. Jack put the card back into his billfold. Now then, Mr. Wolf
Titus, since were being friendly. Wolf sat down and indicated the chair opposite him. Please, Inspector.
Titus, then. Jack leaned against the wall. Where were you on the third of this month at approximately seven a.m.?
What day of the week would that have been? Titus inspected his nails.
Last Thursday.
I was at the Catfiddle Café, a quarter after the hour. I looked at my watch. The owners can verify my presence; I go every Thursday.
Im sure. Jack glanced at the two-way mirror. After the Catfiddle, what did you do that day?
Well, I went down to Wolfcry Enterprises, the family company, and checked up on some business with my brother, Tiberius. We make a nice line of woolen jackets. Titus looked Jack over. What size do you take, Inspector? I could get you a discount.
Never mind that. What time did you leave Wolfcry?
Oh, lets see, forty-five minutes past two. Titus leaned back. Theyre the highest quality jackets, Inspector. If you dont like wool we have a nice polyester variety.
Mr. Wolf.
Titus.
Titus. Jack scowled. Answer the questions, please. No distractions.
Of course, its your business.
Now, what did you do during the afternoon?
I was home by three. I relaxed for a few hours, and left the house again at five. I went on a walk by the riverbank alone.
Alone? You didnt meet anyone along the way?
No one can verify my whereabouts during that time, Inspector. No one can say where I was, or where I wasnt. Wolf smiled. Are we quite through with this, Jack? Im about due for another walk.
Jack glanced again at the two-way mirror. For now, Titus. However, we may have some questions for you later.
Happy to oblige. Titus grinned. Here, Inspector, my card. Call me at any time, especially if you change your mind about the jackets.
